Reimagining how we study biomolecules
5 Aug 2025
This project aimed to answer some of the open questions how cohesin actually works as a DNA loop extruder — not just in pieces, but as a complete machine. In collaboration with the Peters group in Vienna, we mapped the key protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions, resulting in an interaction landscape that made us rethink much of the existing models and offers an explanation for why cohesin has evolved the additional complexity with the NIPBL and STAG1 helper proteins.
